Welcome to our Under Tree Schools project in Southern Sudan
We are building and running a school for 300 girls who have had no education because of war.
We want to provide a good future for a town that was shattered by the civil war in Sudan that has lasted for the best part of 50 years. Now there is peace again and families are returning to their homes. Education for the girls will help lift their community out of subsistence and bring them a better life.
We have already built classrooms, teachers’ accommodation, a water supply. Now we need to fit out the buildings with furniture, and the school with books. The school will open in April 2009, and we need to pay the staff and provide the things that successful schools need.
The school is the vision of Rev. Joseph Ayok-Loewenberg, an Olympic athlete and Anglican priest from the area, who with his wife Karin ministered to Sudanese exiles during the civil war and set up schools under the trees. Their school is playing an important part in rebuilding the education system of his country.
Can you introduce us to a school or an organisation that might want to support us? We are building a long term relationship with the school and its town of Malek: come and join us in building links with them!
